My daily driver too but I'm a mile from work. I used to have a commute like you, about an hour each way, all freeway in New Jersey. While I'd love to think I could have driven the car every day under those circumstances I think Idaho makes some valid points if not for the tires alone (unless you happen to be independently wealthy). By the way the Cracked window issue in many states is a Comprehensive claim and you can get "0" deductibles on Comp. In other words you pay nothing for the windshield. I've literally had two go in one week, not a peep from the insurance company. Some states do have a separate glass coverage.
