I just ordered a car cover for that very reason! I just washed and waxed on Monday, two hours later, both of my wife's cats were sleeping on the top. Paw prints on the car and cat hair all over the top! I went inside and told her either I get a cover or the cats go (not really, I went in a begged and pleaded and she gave in).
