It's pretty basic; BAD MARKETING, even I had forgotten about the car when I was in the market for a new car. I was considering the G35 when I stumbled on a picture of the XF, and said WOW, I loved it when it was introduced, and I'm getting one. This was before I know the prices had gone down. I would have paid the MSRP until I found out they were giving them away.
