Default Odd Borla exhaust situation

Greetings to all,

Great site. This is my first post here. Just got an 04 limited coupe last month and an enjoying it immensely.

I got the car from a local dealer and did not realize at the time but the previous owner of the car had installed a borla exhaust. The dealer wasn't sure what kind it was and me being new to the car had no idea either. Well after poking around here it looks like this is a jerry rigged system.

The exhaust has the Borla stamp on it but here is/are the odd things. There is no resonator pack in between the cat and the muffler. It is welded straight back with a pipe where the offshoot would be for the resonator. And there is a split (Y) Magnaflow tail pipe out of the muffler, the Borla muffler only has one exit hole.

This is not consistent with the pictures of the Borla systems posted here and on the Borla web site, they clearly show the resonator and the twin tail pipes.

The tail pipe clearly has the Magnaflow label on it.

So is this a different borla system then the ones I see, ie older. or is this a jerry rig, maybe the previous owner didn't like the sound with the resonator.

I will say that at first i didn't really like the sound (it is growing on me though), it is pretty loud between 2k and 2.5k rpms. I didn't notice it that much on the test drive. I looked into going back to a dealer to get a stock exhaust but they want $1k to reinstall.

Regardless of what the system is, I am still interested in putting a stock unit back on if the price is reasonable. Don't know if anybody who has installed an after market exhaust still has the stock unit and is willing to sell or not.

Anyway any opinion or info on the exhaust is appreciated.
Thanks,

Rick C.
