why can't you just say "yup ... you know i work hard but my dad has been at it longer than i have... hopefully one day i'll catch up" hmmm ? that way you don't look like a pissy youngling and your dad is not made to look foolish by his son ? that neighbor knows little about cars other than one has a BMW badge the other has a chrysler badge and both have two doors ... but it sure must be nice that your dad gets to show his neighbors what a fine young son he has raised since you bought a very nice car ... now don't say anything in front of the neighbor and ruin that part.
