You may be right (you have been about many other things) but I think it is something other than the e-brake. It only does it after shifting into reverse upon cold startup (left overnight). I almost never set the handbrake and it only does it going into reverse. If I put it in D (skp R) it doesn't do it. Once the car has been driven, it doesn't do it again all day.
