I sold my mint '85 Scirocco on super bowl sunday. Loved it, but was ready for something different. My wife was concerned because we took the 'rocco and our 1969 SAAB 96 to local cruises, and she figured i would take over her SAAB. So therefore she was encouraging me to find something else. I was considering taking the Crossfire to some of the cruises, but wasn't sure. We went to a cruise about a month ago, it was sponsored by a local body/restoration shop. She drove the SAAB (and i rode shotgun...LOL). When we got there, we found out we were actually about 30 minutes early. There were a few cars there, and one i spotted almost right away caught my eye. It also happened to have a for sale sign in the window. When i saw the price, i was both shocked and pleased. The car seemed quite nice and was cheaper than i thought it would be. I found the owner, and as it turned out he worked there. He bought the car in 2003 and restored it. He stripped it down to bare metal, repaired any flaws, and repainted it the original color. He ordered new leather to recover the seats, as well as all new door cards to match. He did some mechanical sorting out. He also put a new top on. Then he got bored since he was mostly done with it, so it sat most of the last year while he rebuilt a rolled Honda he got for $200. I asked if the car had been a wreck and he said no, that he bought it at a local dealer because the chassis was very clean, and it was a great basis to restore. We talked and he agreed to put a new clutch in and PA inspect it for me. I picked it up last wednesday, and so far it has exceeded my expectations. So here it is...my new 1987 VW Cabriolet wolfsburg edition, in triple white. 5 speed, working AC, and a nice pioneer CD player.
I have owned a VW of some type pretty much constantly since 1980...
