No, you understood the problem correctly, as far as Vegas has told it. It is just that the H/P customer support in India did not get it!

I also think it is false advertising on H/P's part, since page 32 of the manual states that the backlight never goes out, and if you are not going to be using the monitor for any length of time, to turn it off with the power switch.

Does not sound like Energy Star compliant to me either.....

Maybe there is a "Manual Energy Star" mode!!!
