Only you can answer. But, the reality is, the '04 through '06 GTO's are at
minimum as powerful and possibly more so than those of the '60s and
'70s. Given, factory reported HP was suspect during the late '60s and
early '70s, but here are the numbers as delivered stock...
'64 - 325 HP
'65 - 335 HP
'66 - 360 HP
'67 - 360 HP
'68 - 350 HP
'69 - 370 HP
'70 - 360 HP
'71 - '74 were disappointing, below 250 HP
'04 - 350 HP
'05 - 400 HP
'06 - 400 HP
Personally, I think the new GTO looks like crap. It's just a box on wheels.
But, it is as quick as the SRT-6 (maybe more, depending on driver).

Larger power plants in '04-'06....Fact
The '04-'06 gto's are disappointing to me b/c Pontiac brought back a classic name and styled it as such. (
Cadillac Catera front), built it in Australia and tried to compensate for it with more HP (
Vette LS1 power plant, LS2 was a after thought). When reintroducing a heritage vehicle, do it right.
The SRT-6 skipped the minor leagues and went straight to the pros with out having the luxury of multiple model years.
