Re: How much different is the SRT vs. the C32?
The Powertrain is virtually identical. The intercooler leaking is a known, but seldom seen issue. As far as the AC, I hasn't seen much in the way of the entire AC system failing. The control unit in the dash is known to have a mind of its own on occasion. As far as I can tell, The SRTs actually seem to be MORE reliable than the Base and Limited ones. I'd go for it. Maybe you got a Monday Benz. As far as the rest of the car, it has more in common with an SLK32. The basic passenger floor pan is similar, and the Brakes and a lot of the suspension is the same. The dash control layout is also basically the same as teh SLK as well. The rest is pretty much specific to the Crossfire. The Body Structure and construction is exclusive to the Crossfire.
The biggest issues have to do mostly with incompetent dealers that don't know how to work on a "Benz". The good thing is if you buy one under warranty, you get a free Loaner Car service contract from Chrysler that pays for a rental whenever your car goes to the shop, so that's a good thing. Mine has 16,000 miles on it and trouble free so far.
Unless you plan on modifying it, I would just invest in a good Chrysler Extended Warranty and call it a day.
To some it up, are they as reliable as a Toyota? No... Are they more reliable than the average Domestic car? Probably...
