That's actually fairly accurate. I had that happen on my old RX-7. I had 255s on 8 inch wheels, and the center would wear down and the outsides looked new. And no, they were not over inflated.
I am ready for tires myself and would love that size but I am concerned to go more than 275's. I am not sure what brand I will go with yet.
