adjust the rubber stop to it's lowest position (away from the hatch) for the fix.
Initially I believe that is how my car came from the factory. I had adjusted it in the other direction and no change. Today I put it back like you suggested and I still hear something back there after hitting certain bumps. Maybe its a spring or the spoiler?
