Snow tires are always better with a rear wheel drive car. When I lived in NY we got hit with some bad snow storms, I have only driven my XFire once in the snow and then we moved to Virginia. It was driven on a cleared road with minimal ice and I had no problems. I can not tell how it will react on med/heavy ice buildup, that will depend on conditions and driver ability.
