Default Re: has anyone had a corneal ulcer

Andrew... sorry to hear about your problem.

I had the same problem about five years ago in Silverton, CO while we were up there four wheeling. Yes,
it was very, very painful. The white of my eye became blood red within hours of the infection. It puffed out
over the iris and my eye was very sensitive to light. It took me 12 hours to get home with the wife driving
through the night. I saw two doctors the next day. I went through the same med regiment you're going
through.

As for sight after the infection... it depends on where the scar from the infection forms. Mine formed right
at the bottom of the iris at about the 7:00 position. I have blurred vision in that eye now... sorta like when
your eyes tears up or when you're looking underwater without goggles. Because of the location of the scar,
it distorts the light going to the pupil of my eye causing blurred vision. If I squint and cover the scar, my vision
is good, but I can't go through life squinting with one eye all the time.

My vision in that eye is a blurred 20/40. My cornea specialist will not consider a cornea transplant because
there is not much of a chance the vision would be corrected that much after the surgery. So I'm stuck with
what vision I have left in that eye.

Good luck with your issue, and I truly hope your eye heals without leaving a scar that will affect your vision...
