I could not remove the console side panel. Someone must have superglued that #*@! screw in place - and not being metal, it stripped right out. Re the washer, magnets did not work (tried using two). It took dental probes - the kind with bent tips - and a lot of time to work them under the washer and lever it out. BTW, I had a very experienced mechanic friend with me working on this so it was not just my fumble fingers...

One suggestion - once the washer is out, use a power drill to carefully resize the hole. Just a slight reaming will do it - enough so that the washer can perform its design function but enough so that it will not bind against the center pin the next time you might want to remove it.
