I have a similar situation - not races but getting to club rides - and have considered taking off both wheels. May be a bit awkward and messy with getting chain grease on the hands. May consider it for tonight's evening ride.

My friend had a TT and his bike fit in back (though we don't have the luxury of rear seats).
