I had heard it was something to do with umbrella storage, kid you not. Didn't give it much thought either way. I think that in Germany the cars do have some kind of strap in order to tuck or stow the umbrella while you drive. That would mean you would actually take the car out when there is a chance it could rain?? Sounds crazy.
