The slam you get when you pull it down is just the way the top secures to the car - just like the popping noise when the latch releases the top in the rear.
And after 2 years of owning my car and taking the top up & down a gazillion times, I can tell you that little button does nothing.
Its a one hand job. Pop, push and let her rip!!
Today was a phenomenal day in Florida - breezy, little humidity... makes having this car a pleasure when others in non-convertibles give you that look of envy. *sigh*
