It just seems like they are not necessary (although I did install them and am confident in the seal as well as my installation).

I assume the original filter's built-in gasket is a little larger than the K&N, thus the need for the new seals.

The installation is 99% fool-proof, not much you can mess up...Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew why K&N felt they were required.

Except dropping one of the screws! Just put mine on yesterday and one of the screws fell through the engine bay. It didn't hit the ground and got caught on some plastic pan it sounded like. Wasn't able to find it. Anybody know the part number for those screws? BTW, the quality of the K&N filters are far superior to the OEM's. I've always liked their products, regardless of the crazy claims they make on hp gain. It's worth the price. The original filters I replaced were really dirty.
