Re: buying used, can i certify it?
Bill,
Go here - call Mike -
http://www.chryslerservicecontracts.com
He is very knowledgeable in the warranty lingo, he knows Chrysler rules, and he can tell you what your car currently has and what is available to you. Best of all, he will be up to HALF the price that your dealer will charge you for the SAME chrysler ESP (extended service plan).
Chrysler sells service contracts to ANY Chrysler owner. They can not pinpoint you down to one specific Chrysler dealer. People move, Dealers close, etc - how could they hold you down to one specific dealer? They can't. What if you move 1,500 miles away from where you purchased your car? Are you then required to drive all the way back to get it fixed? What about someone on vacation, and a problem arises? You get my point - they can't pinpoint you to a dealer - it is a CHRYSLER service contract, NOT a 'john does Chrysler dealer contract' - so any Chrysler service center has to warranty it (if it is covered, of course).
The reason to buy from ANOTHER dealer/online source as opposed to your local dealer is cost. My dealer tried to charge me $2,995 for a warranty that only cost $1,100 online. Why would I pay that? There's absolutely no reason to...regardless of what your dealer says, it is simply price gouging.
Your local dealer will try to tell you that the online contract is not a 'Genuine' Chrysler contract, but they are full of it and trying to make a buck. The website is run by a service department AT a Chrysler Dealer - they just sell them cheap because they sell more of them and have less 'overhead' to do so.
Hope this helps.
And congrats on your purchase!
Shawn
