That's your secondary air injection pump (it's an emissions part). It only kicks in on cold starts to keep the emissions down.
Today before I started the car I turned the key to the "Run" position so I could here that electric motor sound. I then opened the hood to determine where the sound was coming from and determined that it is under that black box with all the fuses etc on the passenger side back near the firewall.
I removed the lid to that box and found there to be a small open tube about the size of a cigar and air was blowing up and out from that. I seemed to be coming from the electric motor that was running somewhere below.
Anyone have a clue if this is related to the secondary air injection pump mentioned above. I here this occasionally when the car is warm and has been driven for hours.
