I tried that calibration trick in the manual before I posted, no luck unless I'm doing it wrong. I turned it center-left-right-center with the engine on in park and the light doesn't go off. On a different note after I turn off the engine and then back on the light stays off till I push the brake in, then the lights back. I haven't tried to disconnect the battery yet as suggested above but I'll try this when I get home.
