Default Re: manual vs. auto

Sorry guys, but I totally disagree. I would love to have a manual transmission in my SRT6! While it is nice not to have to shift while just cruising around, I find that when I want power, I want it right now. And the delay in the auto's shifting is infuriating. Now I know some of you will say that it probably takes just as long to shift manually as the auto takes, but it SEEMS like forever. And don't even talk to me about the tiptronic BS. I've really tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and tried to learn to use it. But again, the delay in shifting drives me nuts. I want it to shift as soon as I tell it to, not when it gets around to it. Maybe I've been driving manuals too long, or I'm expecting too much out of this tranny. One of the biggest things I hate loosing with the auto is the control. I drive pretty spirited. In cars with a manual, I also tend to keep the engine in it's power band. With the auto in the SRT6, it seems like the tranny keeps the car in as high a gear as possible - keeping the revs as low as possible. That probably saves gas, but frankly I could care less about gas. I hate it that I've got 350 horses under the hood, and when I want a little power, I have to stomp the gas pedal and WAIT, or shift down 2 gears. That takes forever in my mind. In a manual, that power would already be on tap, because I would be in the gear that I wanted to be in, not the gear that some German engineer thought would save me a euro on gas. Anyway, I'm ranting. But the long and short of it is that manuals are all about control. I take pride in my skill as a driver, and an auto detracts from that. Sure the auto will shift "perfectly" every time, and I -being human- won't. But it's a lot more fun when your driving and you hit that perfect shift yourself. It warms my heart like a box full of kittens to a kindergarten class.

Now I don't plan on driving my SRT6 in the snow, but I think it would be very manageable with a manual transmission. With the auto? I don't think so - even with the auto in W mode.

While I'm on the subject, does anyone know how to reduce the delay in the auto between when you tell it to shift and when it really does shift?
