Nitrogen has nothing to due with maintaining the same pressure over months. What it IS good for is maintaining the same pressure in racing conditions when the tires are really getting hot. Race cars can suffer handling problems which just a pound or two difference. This is why NASCAR uses it. I don't think there is any use for it on the street.
