I put 250K miles on my 1987 Volvo, and when I sold it, it still ran like it had 40K miles, no rust, no dings, no rattles. Sold it for $3,600 after 15 years.
FP, I had a 2003 Civic hatchback that had 40k on it when I bought it. I drove it until it had approximately 225k, when I gave it to my grand niece because she had totaled her car.
She drove it for a couple years, then I believe it had 248k on it when she sold it to some guy.
Except for exhaust, brakes, tires, 4 spark plugs, 1 radiator, 1 cam belt & water pump replacement (as preventive maintenance) and one CV joint "boot", it never broke down, not even once. I do think the rear 1/4 panels did eventually disintegrate though. But that just made the car lighter, so it got better gas mileage.
