The top takes well over 20secs to do all the things it has to do. BUT first, to start the process, you have to turn the latch (only one) and PUSH (real hard) to get the front of the top to pop up about 3-4 inches...This feels like you are breaking the thing. And to finish retracting, you have to PULL (again, real hard) to get it to latch.
The one I drove for a weekend had no issues un-locking the top or pulling it back into position. Could have been an issue with that one?

20 seconds is all it took, but I did it many times waiting at a light. I loved the looks I got
