Yes they record sound. There are some issues with recording sound from the car. You have to adjust the sound record level to low or there will be a lot of static from the electrical in the car.

I have this and it is difficult to strap to the grille. The Motorsports version comes with a variety of quick release mounts specifically for vehicles. It even has a suction cup mount as well.
