Re: CROSSFIRE TAKES DOWN RX-8...owner
Ok, Ok, Ok, calm down. First of all, Irwin is good people, he just seems to have a short fuse sometimes. Irwin, you and Shini need to just get along. We all know this forum isn't a hostile community.
Keep in mind, I have been a Rotary Fanatic for YEARS, I've had 5 of them. An FB, 2 FCs(1 S4 Roadster, 1 S5 GTUS), and 2 FDs. I know the merits of the 13B. I owned the S4 Roadster until very recently, and miss it everyday. It was the most fun car to drive EVER, and I've owned at least 25 sporty cars over they years. I bought my SRT-6 in July. I had made up my mind that I was going to buy a 2005+ used RX-8 GT 6-Speed, had a deposit on a Shinka with 11,000 miles on it and was scheduled to pick it up when I got home from Vacation. I had been settled on an SRT-6 previously, as I had gone to a Road Racing school that used them, and they BLEW MY MIND, how good and fast they were. I changed my mind from the Crossfire for practical reasons. Mostly because I didn't think I would fit in the Crossfire comfortably for long periods of time( I don't while wearing a Helmet, so race days are painful) I liked the idea of the back seat for room extra junk storage. I LOVE the look of Both cars. The RX-8 and Crossfire embrace what both cultures are all about in my opinon. I can't say I like one better than the other visually.
What changed my mind again, was I decided to drive the Shinka for about 36 hours before buying it, just to make sure it was the right car for me ( I was certain it was, as I owned 2 other RX-7s at the time). Well, after driving it, something just didn't do it for me. I still don't know what it was. The handling of the 8 is unreal, but I guess I was just tired of driving cars that you had to beat the crap out of to get them moving. The Torque Bug just couldn't be satisfied. So I took the 8 back and got my deposit back. I went back the to drawing board. I though about 350Zs, GTOs, C5, G35, Mustang GT and they all had glaring weaknesses that I found unsatisfactory. So, I went back to the Crossfire. I thought I should try one on the street as I had never driven one in a non competition environment. I found a Roadster to drive and decided I liked it. I didn't want a Roadster(too expensive). I started looking for a coupe and found the one I bought. I couldn't be happier. It's a beast and it handles better than 95% of the cars on the road and it 90% as fast as a Viper with a few Bolt-Ons.
That's my story. I still have love for all things Rotary, but my other Auto obsession, MOPAR, got me again. I actually traded a HIGHLY modified SRT-4 in for it. Remember me posting that picture on RX8CLUB of the insane burnout prior to the low 11 Second pass in the Neon? It was well traveled on the RX8CLUB, and it's in my user gallery on here.
Welcome aboard, I'll come over and say hhigh in RX8CLUB!
