I think it's possible to match, for example, a stock 350z in acceleration by losing 150-200 lbs off the car. You'll end up shaving time off the corners too. It just costs money to do it in a way that uses high tech materials, but it's not a meaningless endeavour - just an expensive one.

Guys, I'm not trying to be a downer here, but unless you want to butcher your car like HDDP did for racing, (no offence Derek) you would probably have to lose 800lbs in the Crossfire to beat a Z car in the 1/4 mile.
Oct. 05 Road&Track Magazine
350Z runs 14.1 sec 1/4 mile
XF....runs 14.9 sec 1/4 mile
That's going by the old theory, lose a 100 lbs. lose a 1/10th of a second.
Still, losing weight is always a good idea for performance for sure.
Ultra light weight wheels, mini battery, possibly an aluminum exhaust? These mods wouldn't make you think you're "roughing" it when you take your car out for a spin, but I bet you it would probably feel more nimble.
I've said it many times before, even though a Limited/Base car isn't blessed with gobs of H.P., it still has lots of low end torque, and the biggest thing holding the Crossfire back in the 1/4 mile, (or just 0 to 60) is gearing. With a 3.73:1 or 3.91:1 differential, the Crossfire would be a low 14 sec. car.
Sure, it's still wouldn't be a world beater, but more in keeping with its competition. Face it, we really don't need 150mph+ capability!
And it goes without saying, the SRT is still the REAL drag racer in the family.
