You can’t remove the homelink from your friend’s car without leaving a mark since a hole is cut in the headliner in front of the light. Also there is no wiring for the homelink in a base. I know since I am trying to do the same thing. You might be able to tap into the power for the light but the service manual says it is connected through the ignition switch. Since my car is in storage for the winter I think I will have to remove the headliner to get a good cut in the headliner for the homelink. It clips to the headliner and uses a connector (2 lead) that looks like the power connector from a computer fan. I picked mine up on ebay for about $35 where I think the same part from the dealer is over $200.
