Another accident
Lilke Atomheart I too was hit on the left side during New Year's.
Twas new years eve-eve (3 days ago) and my wife and I were headed up the Nor Cal coast to Mendocino for a few days of vacation together. We were on the last leg of the trip, a 35 mile long, Xfire luvin', twisty mountain rd. As we entered one of the left turn twisties, I saw the oncoming car (another Honda) already crossing the double yellow lines...and he just kept coming. I couldn't figure out why he couldn't get control of his car and pull it back into his lane. I accelerated and moved to the right side of the lane to avoid the head on and try to move the impact toward the back of the car. He made contact at the front (hinged end) of the door then slid down the door until he hit us hard at the back of the door and rear wheel. Further into the turn was a large turnout that I was able to get to to get off the road. We were immediately surrounded by Good Sam's helping us out with road flares and cell phones that had good signals.
Some interesting notes:
On impact the car held it's ground and didn't spin wildly, pushing us off the cliff before we could safely get to the pull out.
Like Atomheart the side airbag did not deploy. We were both doing between 30 and 35 mph.
The car responded instantly to my need for speed, and steering, to avoid the head on.
With all the door damage, there is no visible damage from the inside.
The rear driver side wheel is bent on the axle about 30 degrees.
The other driver was a young man driving on bald tires. He appeared uninjured and was insured.
I'd only had the car for 5 days.
Minimal injuries for my wife and I, some soreness in our necks and my wifes back is achy. Saw the chiropractor today, got x-rays and see the family Dr. tomorrow.
Feelin' pretty lucky and DAMNED impressed with the Crossfires ability to take care of us.
