Isn't it perhaps more accurate to say that the fob electronically locks and unlocks the latch, but a properly-functioning and unlocked latch is also required to mechanically open and close the trunk? From a locked position, both the fob and the latch need to work correctly, or the trunk cannot be opened.

Edit: I just noticed that this thread is in the Roadster section of the forum. The points I made above are true for the coupes, but perhaps the situation is different for the Roadster configuration....
