AtomHeart, I think you should try to get your 6 totaled and buy another one. I know it was a present from your wife and it would hurt to give it up. But it would hurt even more if it couldn't be repaired perfectly and had all the problems you are concerned about. Besides, you and your wife could look for a replacement together.

And whatever settlement you get from Allstate it doesn't hurt to ask for a couple of thousand for pain and suffering. This is a very, very reasonable request and as ShawnQ has pointed out a few thousand to an insurance company is absolutely nothing.
