I don't think it's odd of you to think this way because I happen to agree. BMW sells a turbo diesel version of the 3 Series in Europe that performs very similarly to the 330i yet gets far bet fuel ecomony. Audi offers a diesel in the A8 with bags of torque and crazy fuel ecomony for a car in this class - Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear did a test of this vehicle where he tried to squeeze something in excess of 400 miles out of a tank and managed to do so. He loved the thing. And if Audi can win Le Mans two years running with a diesel powered prototype sports car then I don't think we're too far off seeing more of this technology in the near future.

Too bad GM killed American's taste for diesel in the 1980's by converting all those 350CID V8 gas engines to diesel and belching smoke all over suburbia!!
