As far as magnesium, yes MB has been a real fan of the metal for their engines for quite a few years... most of the upper engine is cast from it... It is lighter than aluminum and stronger...

It makes for really cool fires! I know, after watching a local wheel manufacturer burn to the ground when I was a kid. What kind of wheels did they make? Magnesium wheels..
It also makes for a good 'flint' if your crossfire ever leaves you stranded in the dead of winter.
