the last 6 numbers (12th thru 17th characters) on the vin represent the sequence number as it rolled off the assembly line. this number did not start over with the switch to the '05 model. somewhere in the 25,xxx serial number range production switched from '04s to '05s. most likely only one number difference between the last '04 and first '05. they may have even been produced the same day. :lol: there are 05s for sale now at least in the 28,xxx range. no need to duplicate the last 6 characters until a million are sold!
the 10th character in your vin is for the model year. often it is a letter that corresponds to a year. in our case, it's numeric (either a 4 or 5), so it's quite easy to decipher.
one thing that is interesting on the crossfire's vin is the first character, a "1", which identifies the country in which the vehicle is manufactured. u.s. = 1, germany = w. go figure.
