I recall this happening when I installed mine. I don't remember but it seems that I had turned it around and connected the ends opposite to the first way I had them connected and this resolved my problem. I never had any issues with my check engine light though.
Assuming there may not be installation instructions with the device, is it obvious when holding the thing which end goes which way? I hope to install mine in a few days.
