Chuck, I don't know if you're familar with Hubleys "Pot Metal" classic car kits, but they screw together, and need to be painted. The finished product is pretty nice. I think they are about 1:24 scale.

I also did a google search of Gabriel (which I believe took over Hubley).
I realize this is a smaller scale than you wanted. But when you're looking for vintage cars from the 30's there really isn't that much offered. At least not that I'm aware of.
