Yup. That's pretty much the idea. The side benefit of this is that reduces perceived throttle lag and some folks even report a reduced shift delay - which in my opinion are the two biggest flaws with the SRT6.
Don't ask me why you can't just press the pedal harder/faster and get the same results.
