ok re-installed. my bad - it's installed correctly and it works - WOW DOES IT WORK!!!
the 1st time i followed process 2 and removed the side panel. this leaves you unable to see and very difficult to remove and replace the plugs. this time i followed process 1 and removed the pedal. this was just as easy and it was much better. i suggest everyone use process 1 above.
thanks all for your help. i feel stupid but at least it's working now so i'm a happy driver.
