SRT-6 has too many design elements in a short package to throw body stripes into the mix. If I were going to have a so-called Shelby stripe, which I wouldn't, a single 7" stripe down the center-line with a very thin pin-striping on each side to highlight it would do the least aesthetic injustice to the car.
Stripes on a "street" Cobra were never seen on the 289, (as you said). It was usually always a 427 "wide body" option, which most every glass reproduction you find tries to emulate.
If you were to use a "single" stripe down the center, I wouldn't call that a "Shelby" stripe. That would be more like the stripe that was offered from the factory on the 1964 Barracuda.

Even though the hood strakes present a problem when trying to apply over the top stripes on "any" Crossfire, I fully agree the SRT-6's extra design element (aka THE WING) offeres up a huge stumbling block to deal with.
I would never tell anybody not to try something if that's a certain "look" they're going for. But if stripes are what you want, I think they may come out looking better on a "Non-SRT". IMO.
