2nd and 3rd are pretty close in ratio, the big change is 4th and then 5th... so the idea of a shift is sending as much power to the wheels as possible and for a longer time so the car can accelerate, if by skipping 2nd, you are still right in the upper part of the power band and you feel the car pulling after the shift that is a smart move the tiptronic does, it shifts to the optimal gear even when in manual mode so you don't put too much stress on the engine and tranny...or worse case, for some reason it just skipped a gear, if it keeps on doing it and you feel it's not right (the car falls on it's face after the shift because the rpms go too low) hope you have warranty...
