The remote itself is CHEAP! You can find them on ebay for like 40$ or so, (not positive..).. but when you go to get the RFID chip from Germany from your VIN#.. t hat's where the $$$$ piles up.. I believe ??
Actually, I couldn't tell you why it's so expensive. But I know why the fobs on ebay are so cheap - compared to the correct one from a dealer. It's because they're useless. The fact that I was dumb enough to buy a "lot" of three of them for $60 just goes to show how useless they are. I could have turned right around and sold them on ebay individually for $30-$40 each, and made money, but I didn't want to cheat someone by selling them something I know would be worthless to them.
Oh, back to your question: the real reason they charge so much is because they can.
