This story goes back aways ... I look back on it now and laugh! If you're from Georgia don't get offended that's just the way it was then.

Anyhow, this is the 60's and I had just bought a brand new Chevelle SS 396 and was on my way home from Ft. Rucker, AL to Maine. In those days many of the interstates in AL and GA were not complete and you would go for a while on the interstate and then it would stop and then you would go local, etc.

I was cruising along on on one of the local roads but keeping my eye on the speedo. All of a sudden the reds (in those days) came on and I pulled over. The cop gets out of some local town crusier. He saunders up with his beer belly (he was probably 50) saying, "Well boy, where you from, are you from Maine?" (I had Maine plates). I indicated I was and he ask for my ID and registration. At this point I asked him why he pulled me over. He says speeding. I very politely tell him I had been watch the speedo and did't feel that I was speeding. He says, "Boy, how long you had this car?" A month I say. "Well boy, if you weren't speeden now, I am sure you been speeden in the past!"

I was stunned. He then informs me, that the fine is $45 and I could pay him or way for the circuit judge that comes in on Mondays (this was Friday). I surely didn't want to hang around this town for 3 days and quickly paid him. He thanks me, gets in his car and drives off with out ever writing up the ticket!

When I left, I was speeding and got out of GA just as fast as I could!
