I would like to install aftermarket seats, but I have been told that to do so will give me an airbag warning light. This all started when I was talking to the sales people at a seat shop. They told me I might get this light and if so I would have to get the dealership to turn it off.
It seemed to me that I should make sure the dealer would do this before buying the seats and making the mounts. The dealer that has always been nice to me and never given me any problems, said no way. They explained that if the light was turned off and something else went wrong with the airbag system I would not be able to tell. They said even if they did it for me they would be afraid of the liability from the next owner. They said I should talk to Chrysler and see if I could get a waiver. Chrysler said no. Big surprise. They also pointed out that if I managed to turn the light out I would be liable if the airbags failed and someone was hurt.

1. Is the seat really wired to the airbag?
2. If so, is there some way to make the car think the stock seat is still there?
3. Is there a pressure switch in either seat?
4. If there is a pressure switch where the heck is it? Can I move it to a new seat?
5. Is the stock seat really leather over plywood like it feels?

yes, one of the wires under the seat is related to the airbag, i had a wire that rubbed through and it caused the light to come on. dealer replaced the little harness and that fixed it. so you might want to pull the seat back out and double check the connections, if not then take it in and see if they will fix.

I put Sparco Pro2000's in my car about 6 months ago... You'll have to do some fabrication for the brackets, but if you do it properly, they'll bolt directly into the existing seat bolt holes...
Also, you'll have to fabricate an attachment for the OEM seatbelt if you plan on using the existing seatbelt. I installed a Schroth 5 point racing harness in both seats and removed the OEM harness. If you start f'ing around with the seat belts, make sure you remove the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental deployment of the airbags...
Also, you'll have an airbag warning light come on afterwards, because the OEM seats have a pressure sensor in them and a circuit that runs through the power harness to the seat belt retainer that attaches to the side of the seat.
You can turn the warning light off with a DRBIII scan tool after you've done the install...
The entire process, including fabricating the attachment brackets took me a weekend and a case of beer...
