My understanding is that HFS is designed to reduce hormone-induced competitiveness by sampling the testosterone levels of the occupant 500 times a second. If the occupant's testosterone level is higher than deemed safe by strict ISO 9003 standards, the car responds by increasing the perceived difference in power. This usually results in the driver's testosterone levels decreasing and being replaced with feelings of inadequacy. The NHTSA has shown that this correlates strongly with a 50% decrease in street racing activities.

Xfire, when you compare the Cobalt SS (& it's tough to picture a performance Cobalt) you are basically comparing your base vehicle with the likes of an SRT. It's not a fair comparison so you needn't worry about performing against it! I'm willing to bet that no one else in your circle of friends has anything like your car but how many do you know have Cobalt look-a-likes?
