As you can see Goldwing only two people have said that the tips are not black and everyone else knows they are. Of those two one has admitted to cleaning the black paint/plating off of the tips even though he thought it was carbon. Carbon would have come off in a whole lot less than 4 or 6 hours (depending on which post of his you read) of scrubing with an sos pad and meguires. So we can assume that what was scrubbed off was something that was designed to stick to the metal better than just standard exhaust emissions, something like a paint or a plating of some kind. The other one is stating things as fact which aren't fact and therefore is not a reliable source so you can discount what that poster wrote. There are two possibilities that come to my mind on your exhaust tips....
1) The previous owner polished the tips either because they didn't know
they were supposed to be black or because they didn't want them
black, or....
2) A factory screw up. The tips from a n/a Crossfire ended up on an SRT,
either because of a mistake or possibly they ran out of SRT tips
and didn't want to wait for the next shipment so they just used n/a
tips.
These are the only two things that come to my mind, but who knows it could be something else.
