What kind of "fire pits" do they have at Colt State Park? Do they have grates on them? Will it be necessary to bring small portable grilles, either charcoal or propane?
The disadvantage of our vehicles is limited trunk space, but if everybody can spare a little space we'll be in great shape.
Rick,...do you have an approximate count of the number or XFire people that will be attending? Once we know that number we can think about what are menu options are. I would avoid chicken unless it is precooked them warmed on the grill. Raw chicken is a great spreader of salmonella, and since we won't have any way of washing our utensils and our hands after handling raw chicken, I would recommend we avoid that scenario. Probably hot dogs, brats, and burgers would be the best. Maybe some precooked sausage, peppers, and onions would be a tasty treat on rolls. We could put it in those throw-away aluminum half trays and put it right on the grill to heat up. Throw in some potato salad and/or macaroni salad and we will have a lunch that's easy to prepare and enjoy.
If all those who are planning to attend could let us know their preferences, we could come up with roughly what we need. I can buy some Kayem Old-time Franks at BJ's Wholesale. I think there's about 40-45 franks per box. The same applies to burgers. They usually come 20 to a package (fresh burgers), or we could buy frozen burgers. We could also purchase the potato salad or macaroni salad unless someone wants to make it at home.
Let's start hearing other people's suggestions. What do you say?

OK Bob, They do have pits with grilles on them, they also allow the use of propane and other types of grilles like hibachi, I will find out more tomorrow as to how many we can have and how much the permits cost if anything. The precooked chicken is a good idea and it would just need to be warmed up, I'm well versed on food safety as I have issues with
my intestines. I believe we have 13 or 14 at last count, that's cars, not people. I'm still waiting for PM's from everyone. I did speak with a guy from Long Island who is coming in on Friday night and we are going to get together beforehand. Anyone that is coming from the south and west are going to meet at the park and lock on RT 1A, at (9:30 am) if anyone wants to join me for breakfast, there is a small place on 1A on the right hand side across from a funeral home I believe it's D&J's There's a flower shop attached to the building, pretty easy to spot. I figure we can all park our Crossfires in the Funeral parlor lot while we have breakfast. Then leave to go to the other lot to meet with the folks who didn't want breakfast.
I have some really good charcoal real wood OAK that has been made just for grilles and some mesquite as well. That about does it for me, it's up to the rest of the folks to write in now. Rick
