Re: Clarion FB275BT Head Unit
Well folks,
I installed it using the VW/Audi harness ( switched yellow and red wires :-) and Euro style Antenna Adapter and it worked well, right away. It has tone controls as opposed to an equalizer( like the Infiniti) but it sounds pretty good ( heavy, heavy bass possible with Loudness "on").
Bluetooth works well, volume and sound quality over speakers is great. Ext. Mike quality good , haven't tried internal yet. Streaming Audio with Bluetooth is very high quality from the MP3 player on my Motorola KRazr.
FM radio sounds good also. Of course this unit has no AM band ( who needs or wants it - your father?)
Despite what the manual went on about saving music folders on the SD card, I just transferred everything from my MP3 directory on my Desktop and it worked well ( the Head Unit does decide playlist alphabetically though- easily compensated for with filenames, plus it has random play)
I have my XM radio connected to the Aux input and it sounds great too.
The system has more power than with the Becker/Infiniti system and that power is accessible right away ( like an audio version of the Sprint Booster:-) - you don't have to turn the volume much to get to the power- even more so with Loudness on. No bass limiting (like the Infinity) here... The Subs are really moving the seats and my pant legs are feeling the air.
I like the colour of this unit with the Xfire interior. I think that the white takes on the silver colour of the console and it blends in. I haven't seen it lit up l at night yet, but the backlighting can be set to Lime, the same as the dash illumination ( and same as my Roady XT XM Radio). I have Dark Slate Gray Monotone interior and IMHO it blends well. It probably would look good with lighter interiors as well. Personal preference though...
Not sure if this unit will be anyone else's " cup of tea" because of the lack of CD player and lack of AM band and the white trim. However, it seems to perform well, so far with the options it does offer. A real bonus with it is that you don't have to make much room for the SD cards - can't say as much for CDs ( where the heck do you put them?)
If I have any criticism, it's got to do with the difference in volume between input sources. Part of that is due to the recorded level of MP3s ( not all from the same source-not all professionally made) but this is not the fault of the unit. Still, there is a difference in volume depending on the source and it can send you scrambling for the volume button sometimes when changing one to another. This is an issue with all units and I wish they'd have a dynamic range equalization setting for all input sources.
Remember, this unit was 159.00 Canadian and has features that the more expensive one's don't - priced a Bluetooth ready unit lately ( not the one's that need an additional module)???
Incidentally, you can buy an iPOD module for this unit.
