Hey there!
The price the dealer is asking is rediculous. An oh-five xfire with 19k on it has a current Canadian Black Book value of $17,000. That's not a price you can normally buy it for, it's what they'd give you on trade-in. A fair price to buy the car is going to be about $20,000. I suggest you offer them $21,000 all in (meaning including GST and all fees etc.) and see if they take it. I bought my xfire 18 months ago and they were asking $30k + taxes & fees. I used the same logic and offered them $29,000 all in (that's basically $25,200 for the car plus tax). I strongly suggest always negotiating an all-in price because it avoids a lot of negotiations on "processing fees" or "dealer fees" which are all a load of crapola. They will always wave these fees if you demand it - but dealing with 'all in' prices circumvents a lot of b.s.. Just figure out what you are prepared to pay, add 5% GST, and do it like that. I ended up getting my car for $29,500 "all in" which was a damn good price at the time... but it was in December and they knew it would just sit 'till April if they didn't take my offer.
